As part of a Utilities Six Sigma team activity work, the HVAC system was identified as a significant source of energy demand within the NC facility. To reduce the energy usage requirements and the associated costs, Berkshire worked with an outside vendor in 2006 to install a HVAC Environmental Control System. This system allows all HVAC systems to be set up on an automatically controlled schedule to reduce run requirements according to work and peak schdule demands. Due to this improvement, Berkshire has reduced the energy usage for the HVAC units by 427 Kilowatt hours per week or approximately 22,000 Kilowatt hours per year.
