As part of Berkshire's continued innovation in processing techniques, new high efficiency wash programs were developed in 2005 for Berkshire's laundered polyester knits. These new programs not only produced ultra clean wipers, they also significantly reduce the water and energy required to produce the products and waste water stream associated with the processing. Water usage and the associated waste water stream have been reduced by 1,270,000 gallons per year. Equipment run times and the associated energy requirement have been reduced by 1,500 hours per year.
